GREEN DEMONS COMPETE AT MAUSTON GOLDEN EAGLES TOURNAMENT ON SUNDAY 1-16-2011
Quite a large turnout of Green Demon youth wrestlers attended the Mauston Youth Wrestling Folkstyle tournament on Sunday at the Mauston High School. A packed gym of roughly 500 wrestlers provided some great competition for the 28 competing Demon club members, and with a final team score of 77, the Demons were ever so slightly shorted of snagging a team trophy, missing the cut by a mere 3 points.
For many of our new wrestlers, they saw their first wins of their career, and for others, their first pins. 2nd year wrestler, Christopher Humphrey is proud to say he gained his first ever and well-deserved pin in the 3rd round. Nicholas Prasalowicz, Johnny Drankiewicz, Josh Wallner, JJ Corral, and Isaac Salinas each achieved a first place trophy for the day, with a combined total of 7 pins. Nicholas Prasalowicz proudly earned a pin in all three of his competition rounds. Justyn Kniprath had his first wins of the season, with some impressive takedowns and a pin in the first round. Shane Kierstyn, Nasano Corral and other first-year wrestlers enjoyed their first ever competition matches, and experienced the adrenalin rush of competing individually on the mat. There will be plenty more to come in the following weeks, as the Green Demons travel to Westby, Sparta, Wautoma, Pittsville and others. In addition to the upcoming traveling tournaments the club will be attending, The Green Demons will be hosting their Adams Friendship 33rd Annual “Feel the Heat” Youth Folkstyle Tournament home tournament at the Adams Friendship High School on Saturday, January 30th, 2011 with weigh ins beginning at 7 am.
